Kingston Leads Channel SSD Shipments for the 6th Consecutive Year

Kingston Technology, a world leader in memory products and technology solutions, today announced TrendForce has named it as the number one third-party supplier of SSDs in the channel for all of 2022; leading channel SSD shipments for the 6th consecutive year. Based on the numbers provided by TrendForce, Kingston accounted for a massive 28 percent of the 114 million units shipped in 2022.

According to the latest findings, the global SSD market rectified its supply and demand dynamics in 2022. This follows a resolution in the shortage of ICs (integrated circuits) that hampered the market in 2021. Despite the resolution, global SSD shipments declined with only 114 million units shipped in 2022 – a 10.7% decrease from the previous year. Nevertheless, Kingston remained the top SSD shipment leader in 2022 maintaining a solid advantage and saw growth in market share over 2021. Even with market challenges, the top five third-party suppliers (non-semiconductor) accounted for nearly 60% of the total shipments in 2022. The results reinforced Kingston as the clear leader in SSD production, as the second-place supplier accounted for only 9 percent of the total channel market.

With the global economy still struggling in 2023, where notebook and desktop shipments faced limitations, module makers strategically managed the burden of high-cost inventory by positioning themselves for competitive pricing in their shipping strategies. As the third quarter drew to a close, market sentiment experienced a rapid transformation, primarily driven by NAND Flash suppliers’ decisive production cuts. This change was particularly evident in the cost dynamics of SSDs, ultimately favoring module manufacturers with lower-cost inventories

Demand for PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSDs continues to define the market landscape pushing module houses to steadily shift from SATA to PCIe. TrendForce predicts providing NVMe upgrades will likely enhance brand recognition and continue to boost shipments. In 2022, Kingston expanded its range of products within its value and high-performance drives, as well as offerings in the external and encrypted categories. With the launch of its new NV2 client NVMe drive in 2022, it quickly became the most popular selling drive in Kingston’s lineup this year, with over 12M units sold worldwide since launch. Following the success of the award-winning Kingston FURY Renegade SSD, Kingston refreshed the drive to include a heatsink option ideal for console and PC gamers. This highlights Kingston’s continued focus on developing high quality NVMe solutions.

Aside from broadening its product portfolio to best align with customer buying trends, Kingston offers top-tier sales support and access to in-house product experts and engineers. This has led to over three successful decades of reliability and support for customers. Kingston’s #1 rank in the SSD market for the 6th consecutive year is no surprise when the same approach in the DRAM division has led the company to be the largest third-party memory module supplier for the 20th consecutive year.

“It’s an honor to achieve this top ranking for another year”, said Kingston. “From the beginning, Kingston has remained steadfast in our commitment to serving our customers and channel partners across the globe, and it’s through these strong and enduring relationships that our SSD business has experienced remarkable growth. The recent findings from TrendForce serve as a testament to the dedication and hard work of our entire team, and we are grateful for the recognition and success we share with them.”

High Growth Expectations are Fueling Network Security Investment by Communication Service Providers Worldwide

A10 Networks today published research, titled Global Communication Service Providers: Market Growth Fuels Security Investments, exploring how communication service providers (CSPs) worldwide are evolving as they expand services and infrastructure in response to changing customer demand and technology evolution.

The study, conducted by independent research organization Opinion Matters among 2,750 senior CSP IT professionals across 11 regions*, found near-universal expectations of robust network traffic growth, with 66% believing it will soar by 50-100% in the coming 2-3 years. This is prompting a range of activities including network security investment, expanding infrastructure to meet the needs of underserved communities, and diversifying into new markets and services.

The study also explored how CSPs are affected by key market trends such as customer cloud adoption and the IPv6 transition. While most have seen positive benefits around cloud, the move from IPv4 to IPv6 is progressing less smoothly.

Commenting on the research findings, Anthony Webb, vice president of A10 International, said: “Despite economic uncertainty, digital connectivity is so central to resilience and recovery that CSPs expect the strong growth seen in recent years to continue. This is creating both the urgency and the confidence among CSPs to undertake major infrastructure and technology investment projects. As they do so, our research shows they are growing more sophisticated in how they approach network security, but challenges remain with the IPv6 transition.”

Providers are Working to Close the Digital Divide

A key area of investment for CSPs centers on expanding their networks to reach unserved or underserved communities. Providing secure, reliable connectivity to hard-to-reach or previously uneconomically viable areas is crucial to reducing inequality. It is therefore a positive that 69% of respondents are expanding their networks to unserved/underserved communities. Among these, half are expecting to achieve an uplift of more than 10% on their current subscriber base and 19% are expanding for an uplift of more than 50%.

Additionally, 31% of respondents – the majority of whom were from larger CSPs – said they are planning to build additional data centers and expand to provide additional capacity for other service providers.

Network Security Strategy is Becoming More Sophisticated and Diverse

As CSPs plan these expansion projects, there are signs that they are taking a more wide-ranging approach to security. When A10 Networks ran a similar study in 2021, security investment was heavily focused on firewall upgrades. Now, although firewall and appliance upgrades are still important, CSPs are also focused on broader components of network security defense.

DDoS detection and monitoring is a priority for 27%, while 26% are investing in ransomware and malware protection services. The same percentage are looking to automate security policies and to simplify and integrate disparate point solutions.

Anthony Webb added: “As CSPs prepare for growth, elevating their approach to security and compliance is becoming increasingly critical to delivering a high-quality service to customers while simultaneously ensuring resource efficiency. We are seeing growing interest in solutions that enable providers to scale legacy systems quickly without compromising security. These include AI, machine learning, and automation solutions that lift the management burden and deliver full control over the network. For growing providers, this offers peace of mind as threat levels increase in proportion to network size. It also provides the visibility and assurance needed to meet regulatory requirements, which our research found to be the second-most common driver for investment in network security.”

Enterprise Cloud Migration is Having a Positive Impact on CSPs

As customers continue to migrate to the cloud, CSPs can now assess the impact this is having on their business. For almost two-thirds (63%) it has been positive. Among these, one-quarter have seen direct revenue growth, one in five have evolved to offer public cloud and managed data center services, and 19% have differentiated their services and increased their relevance to customers. Only 16% of respondents said they had lost revenue because of the cloud shift.

Cloud is affecting CSP buying decisions, too. A cloud-native form factor was the top purchasing criterion for new network equipment, while integration with existing networks and systems was also high on the list.

IPv6 Transition Remains an Ongoing Challenge

Rising demand will put increasing pressure on CSPs to overcome IPv4 address scarcity by making the switch to IPv6. However, the study showed that only 30% expect to successfully achieve this in the next two to three years. Instead, more than one-third are adopting a strategy of carefully managing their IPv4 pools and gradually transitioning to IPv6 and 34% aim to run the two in parallel.

This cautious approach may see providers struggling in the short-term as IPv4 addresses grow harder to obtain.

Opportunities Abound Through Increasing Globalization and Demand Growth

A10 Networks’ Global Communication Service Providers: Market Growth Fuels Security Investments report shows that CSPs are at a crucial point as they aim to capitalize on demand and seize opportunities to grow and diversify their business. They believe that globalization, offering new services such as DDoS cloud scrubbing, and general demand growth are the three biggest opportunities. To realize their full potential, service providers need to scale and protect their networks so the infrastructure they provide is secure and highly available.

Cyber Monitor Intelligent Network Management Fuels Businesses’ Growth in Industry 4.0

If the last decade proved anything, it is that whether a company is small or large, digital transformation is essential.

The integration of digital technology across all functions of an organization significantly alters how you do business and provide value to consumers. Digital transformation also entails a cultural shift that necessitates constant status quo challenge, experimentation, and comfort with failure on the part of organizations.

But as the world gets “more digital”, a significant transformation - Industry 4.0 - is underway.

Industry 4.0, made possible by a combination of cyber-physical systems, the Internet of Things, and the Internet of Systems, sees enterprises rely more heavily on networking and automation to enhance their competence.

Facilities also become complex due to the high convergence of new technology. As a result, preventing any interruptions to services becomes vital to maintaining the productivity of the enterprises.

While many businesses may still be denying the potential effects of digital transformation and Industry 4.0 on their operations or struggling to find the talent or expertise necessary to best adapt it for their particular use cases, others are already making changes and adopting systems that help with their operations.

Cyber Monitor, an intelligent network management system, is a solution widely adopted by successful enterprises globally.

Network Management: Challenges in the Face of Digital Transformation

Utilizing network monitoring, network security, network automation, and other tools hosted on-premises or in the cloud, network management is the act of orchestrating network traffic and data movement throughout the organizational ecosystem.

Delivering a safe, dependable, and high-performing network to end users - including business users within the firm and end customers - is the main goal of network management.

Network management has always been a top priority for businesses, and in the wake of COVID-19, digital transformation, and Industry 4.0, its priority has only increased.

Employing the right network management system, however, is even more crucial. With an inadequate network management system, businesses are subjected to hours of manual labor, time loss, and inefficiencies.

For example, Due to a large number of devices and cables across several locations, administrators would have to manually search for faults when they occur. After finding out the root cause of an issue, administrators still have to spend time updating relevant documents. The matter is made worse when indicators on a network management system are not precise and the interface is unfriendly.

Faced with text and a string of numbers, administrators are not able to immediately grasp the overall situation. Furthermore, with the lack of a proactive notification mechanism, responses become inefficient and loss from the interruption of service can be consequential

Cyber Monitor: Proactive Network Management for Efficient Businesses

An intelligent network management system, like Cyber Monitor, does away with the aforementioned problems of inefficiencies with five superior network management functions:

  • Fault management: This includes features like Auto-detection, Auto warning, Log report, and Issue tracking.
  • Configuration management: Administrators can set the behavior on ports or devices such as enabled/disabled switch ports and blocked selected Mac/IP addresses. Configuration of devices will be auto-backed up and scripts can be dispatched to multiple devices.
  • Accounting management: Statistics and traffic of the particular IP and system can be produced for billing or expansion purposes.
  • Performance management: Measuring performance is important for businesses to grow. Cyber Monitor allows for the monitoring of all kinds of measurements on the device, such as traffic, CPU, RAM, Jitter, MOS, RTT, CRC, and more.
  • Security management: Cyber Monitor includes features for user management and authorization, resource control, as well as the analysis of log reports of the firewall.

The Cyber Monitor Advantage

By employing Cyber Monitor, administrators can enjoy the Cyber Monitor Advantage, which includes:

These automated processes relieve employees of manual labor, significantly lightening the workload and staffing requirements of IT administrators so that they can move on to more important tasks, like focusing on how best to grow the business.

Reduced Downtime

More than that, the intelligent network management system can immediately notify of the problem and obstacle so that the administrator can start to deal with it as soon as possible.

The system can provide comprehensive data, including various performance indicators, hardware status, Syslog, and more.

It can also point out abnormal time and obstacle components so that administrators can complete diagnosis faster in the first line and remove obstacles or notify second-tier maintainers for quick action to reduce downtime.

Ability to Monitor Industrial Devices

Digitalization and convergence of IT and OT make it essential to have a unified view of the entire infrastructure - from machines, PLCs, programmable logic controllers, and IIoT devices.

Cyber Monitor offers IT monitoring (using protocols like SNMP, Netflow, WMI and more) and OT monitoring by obtaining information from OT devices and systems using industrial standards like MQTT, OPC UA, and Modbus TCP.

Additionally, using protocols like MQTT, Cyber Monitor can bring metrics from IIoT devices, such as temperature, humidity, and more.

With Cyber Monitor, administrators can set up thresholds and alerts, which trigger notifications when configured values are exceeded.

Monitoring Modbus in Industrial Environment

Modbus plays a role in an industrial environment and allows employees to monitor industrial ethernet devices, industrial gateways, OPC UA devices, IT devices, and more.

Cyber Monitor is able to monitor industrial equipment based on Modbus TCP and Modbus RTU of Modbus protocol.

A Maximum of 5 values from a Modbus TCP device can be retrievable based on the documentation of device manufacturers. Examples include the CPU temperature, the CPU load (as a percentage), an alert indicator that shows if there is a problem with the device, and fan RPM.

The thresholds are put in place in the event of any abnormal situations. This Modbus application can be combined with Metrics from industrial Ethernet devices, industrial gateways, OPC UA devices, IT devices, and more.

Capacity for Early Detection of Problems

Real-time monitoring of network traffic utilization and traffic charts gives the system the capacity for active and early detection of problems.

Cyber Monitor comes with various built-in performance indicators to check the health of the overall network. Besides the default threshold value, when the value suddenly rises and falls, the administrator will be notified and issues can be dealt with as soon as possible before it becomes even more challenging to deal with as time passes.

Unified User Interface

Monitoring the devices of multiple brands is easy with Cyber Monitor. The system sees a unified and user-friendly interface and generates log reports automatically for effective and efficient management.

Multiple APIs

Cyber Monitor is equipped with many APIs, which can manage multi-brand and different devices, including network devices, firewalls, servers, storage devices, virtual machines, and application systems.

Kingston Leads Channel SSD Shipments in 2021

Kingston Technology today announced TrendForce has named it as the number one third-party supplier of SSDs in the channel for all of 2021. According to TrendForce, Kingston accounted for a massive 26 percent of the 127 million units shipped in 2021.

Although the pandemic continued to disrupt the supply of SSD related components in 2021, shipments through global distribution channels saw an annual growth rate of 11%. While production demand increased, shipment volume was affected when wafer supply was too limited to meet order lead time. In response, Kingston adopted a flexible supply strategy along with global sourcing. The company was well ahead of its competitors considering a global pandemic and chip shortage. The results reinforced Kingston as the clear leader in SSD production, as the second-place supplier accounted for only 8 percent of the total channel market.

Growing demand for gaming SSDs with PCIe 4.0 NVMe continues to define the market landscape pushing module houses to steadily shift from SATA to PCIe. TrendForce predicts providing upgrades will likely enhance brand recognition and continue to boost shipments. In 2021, Kingston added two PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSDs to its portfolio with the addition of KC3000 and Kingston FURY Renegade SSD. The high-performance drives joined Kingston’s family of client SSDs to enable those who demand speed and reliability to handle intensive games and application workloads on desktops and laptop PCs. According to TrendForce, price and the ability to provide comprehensive global production and sales services will be an important factor in continuing to increase PCIe SSD shipments in the future.

“It’s an honor to achieve this top ranking as Kingston celebrates its 35-year anniversary”, said Kingston. “From the beginning, Kingston’s focus and core sales strength has been with our customers and channel partners worldwide as we embody the ‘Kingston Is With You’ working attitude. Together, these successful relationships have helped our SSD business grow rapidly and the same approach in the DRAM division has led the company to be the largest third-party memory module supplier for the 19th consecutive year.”

Kingstoon ranked Top DRAM Module Supplier for 2021 with 78.7% Market Share

Kingston Technology today announced it has been ranked top third-party DRAM module supplier in the world, according to the latest rankings by revenue from analyst firm TrendForce (formerly DRAMeXchange). Kingston retains its number 1 position with an estimated 78.7% market share on $14.2B (USD) revenue. TrendForce states that Kingston increased revenue by 8% YoY marking the 19th consecutive year that Kingston has held the top spot.

According to the report, the world’s top five memory module houses accounted for 90% of total sales in 2021 with Kingston holding nearly 80% of that market. As one of the leading buyers of DRAM chips in the world, Kingston provides a highly customized production model which has led to continuous growth in shipment scale and drove increased revenue by 8%. TrendForce states that pandemic-induced lifestyle changes and the demand for distance learning grew in the past two years, driving the growth of DRAM module shipments. Kingston took the approach to be prepared for those segments. Kingston’s success is largely contributed to their working attitude of ‘Kingston Is With You’ which solidifies the dominant force the company holds among consumers and organizations alike looking to upgrade new and existing systems.

As the industry transitions from current DDR4 memory modules to DDR5, Kingston enhanced its production infrastructure to readily support forthcoming platforms. As the industry leader, Kingston began shipping DDR5 modules last year and became the first third-party supplier to receive Intel Platform Validation on its DDR5 UDIMMS. This marked the first and arguably the most important milestone validating compatibility between Kingston DDR5 memory solutions and Intel platforms utilizing DDR5.

“The 2021 findings from TrendForce reflect the company’s continued growth and flexibility to tackle another challenging business year” said Kingston. “As we celebrate our 35 year anniversary, it reinforces our company’s strength, position and importance in the industry as we maintain the top spot for the 19th consecutive year. Kingston Is With You and we stand ready to support high volume demands.”
